George Jervinis lands role as Test/Lab Tech at Entegris in Billerica through VOLT. Learn how he did it!

Hi Acton Networkers,
 
I have accepted a position as a Test/Laboratory Technician at Entegris, Inc. in Billerica, Mass. This position is in the Liquid Micro-contamination Control group and I am starting tomorrow. 
 
I want to thank everyone for all your advice, support, and of course leads over the last nine months I've been unemployed. This group has been a great asset to me, and I looked forward to the meeting every week.
 
As far as how I landed this position, a staffing agency (Volt Workforce Solutions) working out of Entegris's Billerica office contacted me about my resume on Monster.com. After interviewing with three people at Entegris, I called my Volt contact and to my surprise he didn't officially give me the job offer at that time but he said he did get a positive response from Entegris about my interview. The following day is when I actually received the offer. 
 
Also, If I didn't have another commitment on Friday I would have attended the meeting with doughnuts for the group and also told my story in person.

In addition to Acton Networkers Group, other valuable resources that helped me along the way are:
1. My school's career services center - with resume/cover letter writing, practice interviews, job fairs, and of course Networking!
2. Monster.com - Although from my experience it seems that only staffing agencies are looking for applicants on job boards now.
3. Staffing Agencies - Much more than I could ever count, but one place that lists many is the American Staffing Association, see www.americanstaffing.net.
4. LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter - Although I'm not on Twitter, I know how important and helpful these websites are for networking (that is, highly recommended for anyone not familiar with them and looking for work).
5. Job search/networking books from Amazon - Including Diane Darling's "Networking for Career Success" and Wendy Gelberg's "The Successful Introvert" (Diane spoke at an ANG meeting recently about networking, Wendy also gave a great presentation on how to use LinkedIn.com last November for the Wellesley networking group) among other books.
