Toni Lausten Lands at Blue Cod Technology in Marlborough, MA. Read how she did it!

I landed a job as a Business Process Outsourcing Assistant at Blue Cod Technology in Marlborough. Blue Cod delivers IT and outsourcing solutions to the property and casualty industry. I will be working in a newly developed role as an assistant in the outsourcing department, with primary responsibilities of gathering data and developing management reports.

Blue Cod is one of my target companies and I have been "stalking" them for the past year. I mentioned them during my elevator speech and an Acton networker (who I can't remember their name!) gave me a contact within the company. My first try with the company and this contact didn't pan out, so I tried again when another job showed up on the company website.

This time I applied online, did a company search on LinkedIn for people at Blue Cod and came up with the HR manager's name. I called the company, asked for this manager, she answered and was impressed with my resourcefulness in finding her. She took down my name and said she would give it to her assistant who was actually the first person I contacted at the company. A few days later, they called me and we did a phone interview immediately. After several reassurances that I would be happy with the salary range (2/3 of what I made previously) I asked for an interview with the hiring manager. I had a very good interview with the hiring manager and department VP and they called me the next day and offered me the job. The company is growing tremendously. I have a 10 minute commute, and the company culture is great - in fact they were listed #67 on Boston's Top 100 companies to work for.

I am so thankful to both the Acton and Hopkinton networking groups for emotional and functional support. I have to say, I was getting pretty desperate in the weeks before finding this job - that's what forced me to really work harder and act bolder. Hang in there everyone. I look forward to keeping all my connections alive.
