Anita Murphy landed as a Sr. Firmware Engineer at RSA!
I have accepted a job offer as a senior firmware engineer at RSA. I start on Monday, November 16, 2009. I saw the job in a search on linked in. I did not apply to the Human Resources contact in the job posting. Instead, I searched my linkedin contacts to see if I had a contact in the company. I found that a software quality assurance engineer from my most recent job had worked at RSA. He gave me a good reference and emailed my resume to his friend, who still worked at RSA. His friend knew who the hiring manager was and brought my resume to the hiring manager with a good reference. The manager decided to interview me, even though he was close to making an offer to another candidate. I had a good job offer after 2 rounds of interviews with 11 people.
I have learned that linked in is very valuable in a job search and that you do not have to apply according to the instructions in the job posting. I also know that networking is very important.
I have found the Acton Networkers' meetings, talks, and tips circulated in email very helpful. Unfortunately, I will not be able to bring donuts tomorrow morning, since I have an important appointment in the morning.
Good luck to all of you. I believe that you will all be successful in finding work.
