Hello-

I just wanted to announce that I have landed a position in Sterling,
Virginia and start work on November 9th.

I was laid off from work back in May of this year from Seagate
Technology along with a whole host of highly qualified individuals in
order to cut costs.

As an electrical & computer engineer I found that the best chance I had
at a position on the east coast would be in the greater DC area, so I
focused my search there. I found this position by going to a clearance
and technically focused job fair sponsored by the Washington Post in
Virginia at the end of September. Had a phone screen the following week,
had a job interview the week after, and after about three more weeks of
waiting got the offer yesterday. I will give more details when I am at
the meeting this Friday as the road to getting this position was a
little bumpier than what I described.

What I found to be the most useful in my job search-

1. LinkedIn was helpful as it got me to take a hard look at who I had
met in my career and what feedback I could get from them to help me on
the next stage of my career.

2. Family support. If it was not for my in-laws in DC, I would not have
found out about these job fairs. Also, they are looking forward to
having their daughter closer to home.

3. I also want to say that Acton Networkers has been extremely helpful.
Although I may not have found my job through the networking, I did find
many leads and received good advice going to the meetings. I really
think that the group is a valuable resource and I am grateful that you
guys exist.
