Hi all.

I have landed succesfully through a combination of interesting
occurences, and do want to thank networking in a round about way for
helping land this position.

Back in May, Dan Demaio-Newton of Monster spoke at the Network for
Work group in Nashua. He mentioned the invaluable support of the Acton
Networkers Groups, and also suggested updating any resume posted on the
big job sites at least once a month. I followed his advice, updated my
resume and was contacted two days later by a recruiter looking for this
position. I also joined this support group and took advantage of the
connections and meetings to join user groups, attend a free conference
and get great tips.

Over the past seven months, I have learned many new things that I
did not know about in my previous periods of unemployment. First,
LinkedIn is awesome, but you need to be active in your LinkedIn
environment. Update your profile, let your contacts and groups know
what you are up to. I got six unsolicited contacts and some interviews
through LinkedIn. Second, update your resume on the big boards, as
recruiters do go through them for positions that aren't posted yet.
Finally, look for advice online, but follow your instincts and don't do
anything that isn't your preference in terms of resume content, cover
letters, research or other work search activity. Most important of all
is recognize the value of networking groups; unlike many jobs, at a
networking group you can find the people you like to work with and that
share your values, work ethic, and drive and you can work together!

This job is an advancement, and in this economy, I actually will be
earning more than my last position, getting better benefits and will
not have to relocate to Stamford CT where the FMSU offices are located.
Instead of relocating, I get a telecommuting position!

I do have a word document with a list of online sites I searched or
used for potential positions, a spreadsheet of all the companies I
applied to in the past seven months and a listing of VC contacts that I
