Monster Employment Index Dead at the Age of 9
Since 2004, Monster.com has produced the Monster Employment Index, a view of hiring demand in the US, US' largest regional areas, and other countries. It has been a wonderful tool highlighted by BetterJobsFaster often over the years to provide you with unique insights to where the jobs are.
Monster's market share and stock price have been in freefall for the past several years (For more read:Is Monster Worldwide just sick or is it dying?). As a result, they recently announced the sale of China HR, retreat from emerging markets, the closure of several offices, and several rounds of layoffs.
Unfortunately, they are cutting into their value. It was announced earlier this year that the Monster Employment Index is dead at the age of 9. See below for more details.
Monster Employment Index is No More
Econintersect: A vary useful set of employment indexes complied and issued to
the public for the past eight years is being terminated. Monster Worldwide (NYSE:MWW), an internet based employment agency, has issued a statement that says that it has decided that an index based in inline job opening listings is "no longer an accurate measure of our business, nor the market at large."
Recently Econintersect started reporting the Monster Employment Index (MEI) data for the U.S. and the European region.

We've released the Monster Employment Index (MEI) for over eight years and we're increasingly feeling that it cannot give a complete enough picture of the landscape in all the countries we operate in.
