Southern New Hampshire University’s (SNHU) Innovation Lab seeks a dynamic, results-oriented individual to build and execute career and workforce development programs. The Innovation Lab (I-Lab) is a unit of SNHU, named one of the “World’s Most Innovative Companies” by Fast Company in 2012. The I-Lab disrupts traditional models of higher education by delivering low-cost, high quality education options to underserved populations. In January, the I-Lab will launch a new degree program called College for America (CfA) that uses a transformative, competency-based learning model to help working adults attain college degrees. The curriculum is comprised of focused, relevant assessments that allow students to demonstrate mastery of competencies at their own pace. CfA disrupts traditional postsecondary models by working closely with employers and community organizations to sponsor and support these programs. CFA uses state-of-the art technology, innovative assessment tools, and community and social networking to deliver a quality education at large scale and very low cost.
The Director of Career and Workforce Programs (DCWP) is a member of the core leadership team of the I-Lab and reports to the Executive Director. He or she will collaborate with the Chief Learning Architect, the Director of Technology, the Director of Partnerships, and the Chief Academic Officer to build postsecondary programs with outstanding labor market value for partner/clients and employee/students. The DCWP will collaborate with the leadership team to build and scale programs that meet workforce future needs. He or she will have experience working in business, higher education, or non-profits on similar projects and initiatives as well as a deep network to help the CfA team build national and international partnerships opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of workforce public policy development and the national funding landscape.
Key Job Responsibilities include:
* Build strategy for researching workforce needs and translating to new and existing CfA academic programs. Conduct studies, analyze research, and create proposals for new programs with broad base of employer support. Work with Chief Academic Officer to plan and ensure quality of programs.
*Work with the CFA leadership team to establish an Employer Advisory Council to research employer needs generally and in identified sectors. Plan and conduct meetings as necessary and communicate regularly with high-profile business partners.
*Work closely with Chief Learning Architect, CFA team, and strategic partners to build career development tools and services for student career mapping and development of national career mentor networks.
* Engage with government and other non-profit entities on workforce initiatives related to I-Lab projects. Work with CFA team to build new academic programs either by customizing to specific partner needs and/or mapping competencies of various business sectors (health care, retail, etc.) to new offerings.
*Work with the Director of Partnerships to on a systematic, strategic, relationship-driven approach to identifying new corporate and community partners. As an expert participant, engage in presentations and discussions with current and potential partners about their talent management and workforce needs.
* Represent SNHU, The Innovation Lab, and College for America at national conferences of CEO’s, CHRO’s, talent management directors, foundations, national and state government, and public policy organizations.
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
*10 years or more experience in Human Resource Management, Talent Management, and/or Workforce Development in business, government, higher education, or non-profits organizations.
*Proven ability to build workforce programs at scale with strong employer and employee participation.
*Ability to understand and present compelling case for CfA, with employer needs at forefront.
*In-depth knowledge of the research and issues involving workforce/talent development in the 21st century.
*Experience working with educators or in higher education on workforce issues strongly preferred.
* Strong track record of producing measurable results.
*Strong team skills and ability to collaborate in fast-moving entrepreneurial enterprise.
*Passion for change and innovation and tight organizational fit with mission-driven I-Lab team.
*High level of executive functioning skills including communication, organizational skills, ability to work independently.
*B.A. or B.S., advanced degree in related field strongly preferred.
