Job Description
Looking to make a difference in the world, not just UX? PerkinElmer is looking for an experienced UX designer/information architect to join our newly reinvigorated UX team as we transform PerkinElmer's websites to reflect the amazing impact we have on improving human and environmental health.
You'll play a critical role in helping PerkinElmer realize the rewards that come from a recent corporate wide commitment to and investment in providing our customers with an excellent user experience.
The fact that we have a long way to go means we're expected to make major and sweeping improvements to our user experience.
You'll have the support of great people, broad and enthusiastic cross functional support, and a newly hired, experienced UX Director reporting into a highly respected VP.
As the Senior IA, you'll:
Work closely with our new Director of User Experience to define and execute on PerkinElmer's long-term IA design vision and strategy while simultaneously making short-term improvements to our existing designs.
Participate in and/or lead collaborative cross-functional teams responsible for defining strategy, business and user requirements, and IA/UX design. Teams may include representatives from our businesses, marketing, creative, usability, content, and development.
Clarify and refine target users, goals, and work flows.
Quickly lead the creation of multiple high level design approaches that satisfy our business and user needs, based on a solid and practical understanding of human factors principles, industry best practices, and internal research findings.
Iteratively refine high-level designs based on input from stakeholders, users, and other members of the UX team into reusable designs/patterns that can be applied across our interfaces.
Clearly and quickly document designs at various levels of fidelity, including storyboards, user work flows, sitemaps, and wireframes.
Partner with our usability analyst to conduct iterative user research throughout the design cycle and A/B testing where appropriate.
Partner with our development team to ensure technical feasibility and execution.
Mentor and train on IA/UX topics
Desired Skills Experience
MS degree in Interaction Design, Cognitive Psychology, Industrial Design or related discipline required.
Minimum of 6 years web information architecture experience in a corporate or consulting environment
Portfolio demonstrating expertise in translating business strategies into effective user experiences.
Experience managing information architecture or interaction design on large-scale projects
Demonstrated experience using web analytics to inform design
B2B and e-commerce
Skills
Passion for user experience excellence balanced by excellent project/time management skills, including ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, strong follow-through
Ability to understand customer needs, motivations and behaviors and translate them into deliverable tasks
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to quickly build effective relationships with diverse cross-functional teams at all levels of the organization
Comfortable shifting from high level business discussions to detailed tactical details.
Effective presenting to a wide range of audiences
Hands-on design skills in UX design and research grounded by a deep understanding of human factors principles.
