the Boston-based provider of an online service that provides second medical opinions, has raised $45.5 million from the investment firm

Founded in 1989, Best Doctors is offered as an employee benefit program that gathers all of a patient’s medical history records and reviews his or her case, working with what the company claims is the “best five percent of doctors in the country” to correct or confirm a diagnosis and treatment plan. As it’s designed, employers can offer Best Doctors’ service as part of their health insurance plans.
