Typesafe, a Cambridge-based provider of software for multicore, parallel and cloud applications, announced on Wednesday it has raised $14 million in its second round of venture capital, which was led by Shasta Ventures. Founded in 2011, Typesafe provides packaging of Scala, Akka, Play open-source platforms, and developer tools through an open-source offering, as well as commercial support, maintenance, and operations tools. The company also provides training and consulting services to accelerate the commercial adoption of Scala, Akka, and Play. Other investors in the company include Juniper Networks, Greylock Partners and François Stieger, a former executive at Verisign, Broadvision, and Oracle.
