AMERICORPS/VISTA OPPORTUNITY IN BOSTON


Through the Department of Justice Forum Initiative there is an opportunity for a VISTA position to create and support sustainable youth violence prevention projects and partnerships that will improve availability and access to: youth and gang violence prevention programming; neighborhood diversion activities; social services and family support; economic and job opportunities; and other activities that enhance general quality of life in low income neighborhoods of Boston.


This person will work in Boston’s Circle of Promise to help with capacity building, strategy development and implementation of its student and school focused family economic stability strategy. The Circle of Promise is a 5 mile area in the heart of the City of Boston, containing some of the city’s most challenged schools and disadvantaged communities, as well as great resources and assets.


Experience with community organizing, anti–poverty programming, education and/or data analysis is a plus.

Create sustainable and support existing youth violence prevention projects and partnerships (including local, state, federal, and community- and faith-based organizations) that will improve availability and access to: youth and gang violence prevention programming; neighborhood diversion activities; social services & family support; economic & job opportunities; and other activities that enhance general quality of life in low-income neighborhoods.

Member Duties : 1.Conduct or attend community meetings, events and activities; routinely engage with community leaders. 2.Analyze community mapping and assets in the Forum/Circle of Promise area. 3.Identify evidence-based practices in multi-agency collaboration and brief agency partners, supervisors and school liaisons on their merits and possible implementation. 4.Develop new partnerships to support and augment the success of Forum/Circle of Promise capacity-building strategy development and implementation. 5.Raise awareness of the Forum/Circle of Promise at both a local-level and through media opportunities.
