Prepare for a Depressing June: DOL Announces It'll be American Job Fair Month

If you've ever been down on your job search luck and needed a boost...  ...How about going to a Job Fair!!! You get out, get to meet people, hand over resumes.  What could be closer to living the dream?

Here's 10 things:

• Waiting in Long Lines


• Fighting to get 15 seconds in front of an employer you care about


• Realizing that the person you're talking to is a "booth babe," not a hiring manager


• Getting another free pen/coaster, t-shirt, sticker, plastic thing that is cute for 15 seconds


• Trying to get a clear handle on how to follow up on an application


• Stale coffee


• Realizing just how bad the economy is


• Finding out there aren't any companies you really would love to work for


• Finding out there aren't any jobs you're really qualified for


• Applying to mediocre jobs and wondering, is this the life I'm meant to live?

June is American Job Fair Month. The Department of Labor will promote June as American Job Fair Month in speeches, Web sites, key communications, and other outreach channels to maximize the traffic to local events. We encourage State and local areas to arrange for and conduct a job fair during the month of June as part of this comprehensive effort.
