Sanford, Maine -- Maine Manufacturing, a Sanford-based provider of technology and specialty manufacturing, announced on Tuesday it has been awarded a Phase 2 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for continued development of a reaction membrane that can be used in biological research and diagnostics. The membrane surface, an outcome of a Phase 1 SBIR awarded to the company in 2010, is a composite of track-etched membrane and nitrocellulose and has demonstrated utility in improving sensitivity of immunoassays and microarrays as well as versatility for use in multiple types of devices, according to Maine Manufacturing.
