Littleton-based TeraDiode Awarded $3.2M by DOD and They Need Talent
Littleton, Mass. – TeraDiode, a Littleton-based developer of direct diode laser technology, announced on Tuesday it has been awarded more than $1.1 million in small business innovation research grants from the U.S. Department of Defense, and has another $2.1 million in defense-related contracts pending. The company's technology was initially developed at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. TeraDiode is backed by an investment from Stata Venture Partners. The company is also developing direct diode lasers for industrial applications.
Vice President of Engineering
Job Description
The Vice President of Engineering is responsible for leading and managing the scientific and engineering team developing high power direct diode lasers. The successful candidate will have a detailed understanding of and possess the requisite engineering and management skills necessary to transition a product from alpha and beta prototype phase development to volume production and post production activities. Also, the candidate must concurrently act as an individual technical contributor.
The ideal candidate should have experience dealing with relevant technology issues such as thermal management, materials and optical component selection, product development lifecycle, DFM, FMEA, and design for high reliability.
Education and Experience
The candidate should have a BS, MS preferred in EE, Physics, ME, Optoelectronics, Optics or Lasers. A minimum of 10 years prior experience in product development and project management of laser based devices including direct diode, semiconductor, gas or solid-state based laser devices is required. The successful candidate will have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact comfortably with founders, employees, vendors, investors and customers as well as a solid knowledge of design for manufacturability.

Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
The Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer will lead the optical and mechanical design of TeraDiode’s product line of high power, high brightness direct-diode lasers. We seek a seasoned opto-mechanical engineer with experience in the design and development of high tolerance, complex opto-mechanical products which achieve medium to high volume levels. Experience with lasers of 200 W to 1 kW or more is a major plus.
Experience and Education
The successful candidate will have experience with some or all of the following: mounting of optical components, optical alignment, micron level tolerances, solid state, fiber or gas lasers, FEA, DFM, FMEA, kinematics, thermal modelling and fixture design.
The candidate should have a BS, MS preferred in EE, Physics, ME, Optoelectronics, Optics or Lasers and must be proficient in SolidWorks or an equivalent mechanical design software package. A minimum of 10 years industrial experience is preferred. Knowledge and experience developing a product incorporating design for manufacturability (DFM) is highly desirable.

Laser Engineer
Job Description
The Laser Engineer will work with senior engineers to set up and complete experiments on an optical bench, perform optical alignment, optical and electrical assembly and testing on laser modules. He/she will collect, analyze and present experimental data.
Experience and Education
The successful candidate will have a BSEE or BS with Major in Physics or Optics and a broad background in lasers, fiber optics, or optical systems.
Experience with optical test equipment including power meters and spectrum analyzers in addition to 2 to 3 years of experience in two or more of the following areas is required: fiber lasers, solid-state lasers, semiconductor lasers, laser-based optical subsystems, laser stabilization, high-power lasers, and optical engineering. Experience with data acquisition software (LabVIEW), data analysis software (MATLAB, IGOR Pro, Excel) is desirable and familiarity with hand tools, electromechanical assembly and electrical troubleshooting a plus.
