New "Apply With LinkedIn" Coming Soon to a Website Near You
LinkedIn is launching a new job application feature to appear on employer's websites.
GigaOm reports that, LinkedIn will launch a new integration feature for employer's career pages. It provides a button called “Apply With LinkedIn” that allows applicants to submit their LinkedIn profiles as resumes. The “Apply With LinkedIn” feature will appear as a button beside the job posting on a company’s careers webpage. When a seeker clicks the “Apply With LinkedIn” button, a pop-up appears that prompts them to sign into their LinkedIn account. Applicants are then given the option to edit parts of their LinkedIn profile and contact information. After an application is submitted, the tool displays additional job openings at that company or the applicant's LinkedIn contacts affiliated with it. The feature is expected to launch sometime in June 2011.

Why you should use it?If you're a young person who thought you can make it through your work while avoiding LinkedIn entirely, you better reconsider. The professional networking service released an "Apply with LinkedIn" button Monday that will alter the game when it comes to online job apps. Given that Netflix and Living Social are already on board with Apply with LinkedIn, the sky could indeed be the limit. Here is the proof: Apply with LinkedIn aligns stars around job networking service
Great point Muracell. Up to the 1950's a high school education and referrals were the primary "signals" for an employer to identify a qualified candidate. Then, with the GI bill it became a college education. That showed you were committed, could conform and follow orders reasonably well and were a good choice.
Now, maybe it'll move to a circle of connections - teachers, community figures, friends, etc. that can serve as a primary signal. I could see this being very helpful to those who don't have the money to afford a college education.
As tough as it may seem, building that personal image online continues to be critical in the online job search in the 21st century.
However, the key is to get to the hidden job market. Don Asher's recent book on getting a job in the hidden job market is really great. You should check it out from the library.
Best,
Dan.
