Monster Launches BeKnown Facebook App
Monster
Worldwide (NYSE: MWW) today launched BeKnown™, a professional
networking app designed to allow Facebook users to establish a
professional network on the world’s most popular social platform. With BeKnown,
users can seamlessly identify and connect with friends and professional
contacts from multiple sources and grow their professional network,
enhance their online professional identity and discover enriching career
opportunities. BeKnown is now available for download at http://apps.facebook.com/beknown
in 19 different languages, and is accessible by any Facebook user.
“BeKnown answers the need and challenge in the marketplace for people to
build their professional networks on Facebook while keeping personal and
work-related contacts and content completely separate,” said Darko
Dejanovic, global CIO and head of product at Monster Worldwide. “An
estimated 700 million people globally live their lives through Facebook
and 97% of the Fortune 500 companies turn to Monster to find talent.
BeKnown now gives people and companies the ability to utilize that vast
network for professional gain by tapping into the power of Monster and
Facebook.”
BeKnown joins a growing portfolio of solutions from Monster that reach
job seekers wherever they are, on their terms; and allows recruiters to
leverage and amplify their recruitment networks as they source, match
and manage talent throughout the entire recruiting cycle. BeKnown brings
professional networking to a mass market audience that includes medical,
engineering, education, retail and many other occupations.
Unique to BeKnown is a Monster-developed Social Referral Program (SRP),
which encourages BeKnown users to pass along specific jobs through their
BeKnown network. The Social Referral Program amplifies a company’s
employee referral network and extends reach to passive candidates.
Currently in beta, the referral program will be rolled out to select
Monster customers.
“BeKnown is another extension of our commitment to meet the evolving
needs of job seekers and employers by adding professional networking to
their online recruitment, job search, and career management toolkit,”
said Sal
Iannuzzi, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Monster
Worldwide. “Whether it’s through mobile
apps, Career
Ad Network (the only recruitment ad network that reaches a third of
all Internet users), or the world’s largest social network, our mission
is to connect people and job opportunities through any and all methods
that produce meaningful results.”
The BeKnown
network offers new advantages to both career-minded networkers and
companies searching for talent.
With BeKnown, users on Facebook can now:
-
Create professional networks within an environment created by Monster
without ever leaving Facebook
-
Easily invite contacts from other social networks to expand their
BeKnown network beyond their existing Facebook friends
-
Keep social activity with friends and family separate from
work-related activity with professional contacts
-
See who among their professional contacts on BeKnown is connected to a
company or job opportunity they are interested in
-
Connect professional networking to Monster’s job search and browse
tools and import their Monster profile to BeKnown from right within
the app
For companies, BeKnown:
-
Opens up a vast source of potential global talent on Facebook –
Facebook’s estimated 700 million members span ages, income levels and
ethnic groups
-
Creates new recruitment-focused visibility opportunities and extends
job posting reach in a high engagement environment
-
Increases engagement opportunities with so-called passive job seekers,
as BeKnown users follow company job and network activity

I've signed up for BeKnown and filled out my profile. I've earned 4 badges. What I'm not sure of is how this helps me get a job. I have a list of connections and "2nd Degree" connections but can't see how to connect to them.
I checked out the jobs section of it, and that's great (I guess). Now I don't have to go to Monster.com to search for jobs. But the jobs aren't pre-tailored for my profile (duh!), and I don't see how I can use my network of connections to get a job.
I see it has a "Post a Job" section, which would be great (I guess) if I were an employer looking to hire, BUT I'M A JOB SEEKER!
Is Monster trying to re-engineer LinkedIn? Can others who've checked this out weigh in and let me know your thoughts and if I'm missing something?
Hey Sheila!
My name is Britteny and I am currently helping with community management at BeKnown. I'd be happy to help with any questions you might have/ pass on any feedback. In response to some of things you mentioned, the jobs section can help you in a couple of ways:
1. the Monster search. Also, when you click on the jobs tab it should pull up jobs in your town, but I don't know yet if it tailors them to your profile but that is certainly feedback that I can add.
2. Jobs listed from people within your network. If your friend works at USbank, and there is a job opening there, they can post it to their network and then if you're interested, they can connect you with the right person and maybe even endorse you for the job. We all know that it increases your chances of getting hired when you know someone at the company.
3. In addition, under the jobs tab you will see "jobs for friends." This search will pull up jobs that match qualifications of those in your network. Very soon you will be able to earn referral money by connecting one of your friends with a job, which is a cool addition.
Just in the last few days, I've actually connected several people for jobs/internships within my network. The more connections you add, the more opportunity there is for everyone to gain. It's interesting to see how many different companies your connections have been involved with when you view their profiles. So, you might have a connection, with say, me - but I could be connected with a company that you are interested in working for. Therefore, you could connect with them through me and because of the common connection it might get you in the door.
Hope this helped a little bit. Again, you can email me directly if you have any more feedback!

Britteny,
I see that you just joined BetterJobsFaster yesterday. That tells me you aren't really a member of the group and are probably someone Monster hired to troll the net to captcha postings on BeKnown to intercept all the negative comments around their latest "game changing" non-game changer. In case you didn't already know, Monster does this every few months, loses interest and moves on to their next game changer.
As a paid Monster "scanner" you probably already know that the Monster search doesn't really do anything except infect Facebook with Monster.com's ad-riddled Titanic. Can't wait for all those relevant Monster ads to roll in whenever I use BeKnown.
As to your second point, if my friends in my network listed jobs, they'd be recruiters. They're not. AND, if they had jobs that were ones I'd be interested in, they'd IM me, not post to Facebook. Plus, why would I need to use either Monster's search or friends postings when I can just go to Indeed.com and find all jobs there?
As to your third point, WTF with earning "referral money." That's BS. You're trying to get me to pimp my friends to Monster? Again, I ask you WTF. If you just use common sense and THINK about the product you're being paid to pimp, you'd know it just makes no sense. If you really examine what you're doing, I'm sure you're telling yourself, "it's a job, whatever..." Tell me, do you REALLY care about BeKnown? Do you REALLY think it will matter or make a difference? Or is it just another corporations attempt to remain relevant in a world it doesn't understand at all?
Thanks for your perky comments. I was wondering, are you the same Britteny who:
posts about Reality shows? Seems like you lost interest there...
whose 17YO niece collapsed from a drug overdose? (I hope she's ok, I know how hard it can be. Someone in my family also had a drug problem).
who had a strawberry shortcake pillowcase as a child?
who likes Over the Rhine?
Sorry for the skepticism, but having been on BJF for several months, I know that the site tries to cut through the BS and fluff and get to the heart of it. So, I'd love to hear your story and what you think about BeKnown - honestly - if Monster will let you.
Sheila -
I understand your feelings on the matter and to answer your concern about me being paid to have positive opinions about BeKnown, that is not correct. I'll be honest with you, I was skeptical of this at first because mainly, I don't do FB apps. I have zero installed and I ignore every invite I ever receive.
My job is to simply help others understand the benefits of professional social networking in today's world and to gain feedback good OR bad on what we can do to improve the app. I have submitted plenty of honest feedback on what I think could be changed. They want honesty, not blind optimism, because only through honesty can things become better. And as far as if it will make a difference - I guess that is to be determined. However, I have already seen friends of mine making connections for internships and jobs through the app, and with the economy the way it is I don't think it can hurt to have yourself plugged into as many opportunities as possible. As a freelancer, every one of my jobs has come via social networking.
In regards to what you said about friends/referrals the point is simply that with Facebook many times we have a large network at our fingertips that isn't being utilized. Most people have hundreds of FB friends they don't talk to regularly, so if a job comes up at their work, it's not necessarily the case that they would contact you. Close friends would, yes.
The referral program is something that is being developed and is a way for employers to gain quality referrals from their connections. It's no different than when I worked at a bank and we received $100 for each referral that ended up being hired. Make sense?
If you'd like to talk about this further, as I stated you can feel free to contact me directly. I will tell you my honest thoughts, always.
Have a good day Sheila.
