Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Harvard College Assistant Dean of Student Life and Harvard University Hospitality and Dining Services Director of Operations, the Pub General Manager and Manager of Student Event Services is responsible for the management of the Cambridge Queen's Head, a student run pub. This person collaborates with student planning groups to develop programs while encouraging student initiatives and concepts, developing menus, creating marketing strategy, and offering support and guidance to create a collegiate pub environment.
The Pub General Manager is responsible for all operational aspects of a quality restaurant and dining service operation, and for providing maximum customer satisfaction. In addition, this person manages and oversees all operations associated with Student Event Services (SES), a graduate student program whose employees serve as event supervisors and bartenders for undergraduate student events.
The Pub General Manager and Manager of Student Event Services:
* Recruits, trains, and supervises 100+ undergraduate and 40 graduate student employees, and six undergraduate and four graduate student managers.
* Trains student managers to interact effectively with city officials and environmental health and safety officers.
* Trains managers in areas including: human resources, food and beverage management and controls, marketing and public relations, sales management, programming and event planning, event management, alcohol and food safety.
* Manages restaurant space including rental of premises.
* Oversees ordering of food and supplies, as well as overseeing food and beverage service and cost controls.
* Creates and presents bi-yearly high level report to the Oversight Committee.
* Manages Student Event Services, a comprehensive program that provides beverage service for campus events as well as support and oversight for late-night student event with or without alcohol. SES provides oversight of undergraduate social events hosted by student organizations as well as alcohol service at student, departmental, and residential events. Managers the training program for the SES team by developing and implementing training opportunities throughout the year.
* Establishes and maintains close and collaborative relationships with students, staff, faculty, House Masters, clients both on and off campus, and with Student Life.
* Liaise with numerous campus departments and organizations involved with student life and licenses.
* Advises students and staff on best practices and procedures for late night student initiated events management. Collaborates with the Manager of Student Events to ensure the SES team services are integrated into the event advising and registration process managed by the OSL.
* Serves as the alcohol service safety trainer for SES and pub employees, and in conjunction with AODS, and OSL staff, provides alcohol and event safety training to student groups.
* Enforces all laws, and Harvard University policies and procedures regarding the safe sale, service and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
* Serves as the manager of record for licensed premise with the City of Cambridge. Acts as the representative of the Cambridge Queen's Head to the Cambridge License Commission, and participates actively in the Cambridge Licensee Advisory Board.
* Prepares and assumes fiduciary responsibility for fiscal year operating and programming budget.
* May serve as a guest member of committees at the request of the supervising Deans.
* Ensures an environment where diverse staff are valued, respected and encouraged to develop their skills through training opportunities.
* Flexibility with schedule required. Regularly works evening, late night, weekend, and weekend late night work. On call work is required.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with five years demonstrated experience in providing direction to programming and initiatives designed to enhance student involvement and success.
Additional Qualifications:
Proven strong commitment to, and skills in, staff development and mentoring.
Demonstrated leadership in student advocacy and constituent communication.
Strong management, time management and public relations skills necessary.
Excellent problem solving, team-building and communication skills (both written and oral) and proven ability to work cross-functionally.
Demonstrated financial expertise working with budgets and writing financial reports.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation and policies desirable. Understanding of procedures regarding the sale and service of alcoholic beverages required.
Experience working in a facility that serves alcohol and is frequented by an underage population is strongly preferred.
Prior experience in a higher education administration, operating a pub, catering knowledge, understanding of student development theory, and higher education law a plus.
Working knowledge of MS Office suite required.
Knowledge of Google: Sites (wikis), calendars, documents, analytics, and groups as well as Facebook, Twitter, and electronic marketing is strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of: computerized food ordering/ inventory program, Kronos Timekeeping system, MICROS, EMS, Catermate helpful.
Knowledge of audio-video systems: including: computerized music databases, live sound boards, stage striking and set ups, and audio-video processing helpful. ServSafe, TIPS, TIPS Trainer, and HACCP certification required (must be obtained within six months).
