Job Description |
OPPORTUNITY. This position focuses on quality improvement and organizational development at the Guild for Human Services, a strong residential, community-based school in Waltham, Massachusetts. This new role is an incredible opportunity for someone interested in integrating organizational development and continuous quality improvement with curriculum best practices. It is rare to have a formal QA unit at a school of this size, and the successful candidate will play a key role in furthering the school’s commitment to excellence of education and care.
BACKGROUND. The Guild for Human Services is a private, residential, community-based school that serves students up to age 22 with cognitive disabilities compounded by significant emotional issues, including autism. Founded in the 1940s, the Guild is well established and respected for being in the forefront of providing high-quality, individualized services to students. The Guild’s day and residential programs are deeply integrated, and students have the opportunity to practice and hone their social and interpersonal skills through interactions with community businesses and other resources. The majority of current students live in Guild houses in the communities of Waltham, Watertown and Belmont.
THE POSITION. Reporting to the Chief Quality Officer, the Director of Organizational and Staff Development will play a leading role in the continual professional development of Guild staff and the organization; his/her goal will be to continuously improve the quality of the Guild’s care to students, and use the Guild’s resources more effectively in the provision of that care. S/he will be a lead resource and coach to the senior leadership team on matters of staff and organizational development, and collaborate with them to keep such development a strong agenda for the organization. The Director will review and evaluate in-house practices, procedures and protocols relating to staff education, professional development and organizational processes that affect quality, and will make recommendations to the senior leadership team on refinements, upgrades and elimination of barriers appropriate to meet needs. The Director is responsible for the training budget, and will plan for, oversee the conduct of and sometimes conduct in-house training. The Director is also a critical contributing member of the Guild’s crisis prevention team, and will assist in the situation assessment and therapeutic interventions planned to prevent crises.
QUALIFICATIONS. The incoming Director will be passionately committed to supporting the delivery of high-quality, individualized services to special needs students with highly complex needs. S/he will have an ability to draw colleagues into engaging on quality improvement initiatives and committing to the goals of continuous quality improvement in general; will have deep knowledge of best practices and quality improvement; and will be familiar with current research in special education or relevant field, particularly in the relationship between staff performance and student behavior.
