Love Tennis? Why not be the Director of the US Tennis Association New England?
MAJOR DUTIES:
1) Overview: Manage the services, products, policies, staff, budget, and programs of USTA New England under the direction of the President and the Board of Directors.
2) Core Values: Lead and manage USTA New England in a way that is consistent with the core values of the organization: integrity, excellence, teamwork, accountability, inclusivity, and service.
3) Board Relationship: Assure that the President and Board of Directors are kept fully informed on the conditions and operations of the section and on all important factors influencing the tennis industry in New England.
4) Staff Management: Be responsible for all aspects of managing employees and maintaining appropriate levels of quality staffing. Maintain employee records and approve vacation schedules and any additional special requests. Provide training, supervision, support, and leadership for office staff. Conduct regular staff meetings and annual performance reviews. Lead staff in annual goal setting and review.
5) Strategic Planning: Work in conjunction with the section and USTA in developing and implementing the strategic plan, and evaluating short- and long-range goals and objectives.
6) Fiscal Responsibilities: Manage and direct the daily business operations of USTA New England. Supervise the financial procedures of the section, including budgeting, payment of invoices, collection of revenue, the yearly audit, and investments.
7) Policies and Procedures: Implement and adhere to all policies and procedures as approved by the President and Board of Directors. Provide ongoing management and maintenance of and for all business records of the section and the Youth Tennis Foundation, which provides opportunities for children of all backgrounds and abilities to learn, play, enjoy, and excel at the sport of tennis.
8) Relationship with the USTA National Office: Keep USTA New England in compliance with its obligations as one of 17 sections of the United States Tennis Association.
9 Internal and External Partnerships: Act as the primary staff liaison to key internal stakeholders, including the Section President, Board of Directors, and seven State Associations. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with critical external stakeholders, including USTA national staff and volunteers, tennis club owners and directors, Community Tennis Associations, members of the U.S. Professional Tennis Association and the Professional Tennis Registry, other teaching professionals, business community leaders, Parks and Recreation directors, current and potential sponsors, tennis industry leaders, and others.
10) Communications and Outreach: Supervise the production of all USTA New England publications and input to USTA publications. In collaboration with the President, serve as the spokesperson for the section and as such, seek and accept opportunities for contact with various industry partners and public entities as is feasible and appropriate.
11) Perform other duties as necessary.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
Increase significantly the number of individual and organizational members.
Increase significantly revenues for the section programs and business operations.
Achieve annual goals and objectives.
Ensure and monitor program quality and participation/growth levels.
Possess a commitment to and understanding of diversity in alignment with the values of the USTA and USTA New England.
Embrace and encourage outreach to diversity that promotes and develops the growth of tennis in New England.
Create a positive and supportive work environment for staff and manage staff in accordance with the values of USTA New England.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: The USTA New England Executive Director will be responsible for the supervision and accountability of all personnel, with direct reports currently consisting of: Accountant, Director of Competitive Tennis, Director of Community Tennis, Director of Marketing, and Volunteer Development Manager.
TRAVEL DEMANDS: 1) USTA Annual and Semiannual meetings; 2) Meetings of Executive Directors of USTA sections; 3) Meetings with the USTA New England Board of Directors and Officers; 4) Meetings of USTA national committees, as necessary; 5) Meetings with key stakeholder groups in New England, including seven State Associations, committees, and partner organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Proven ability to lead and manage a successful organization. Experience with a non-profit organization and/or a tennis-related entity a plus.
• Successful experience in the tennis industry.
• High personal standards and integrity.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience in making effective presentations.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage to a budget.
• Successful experience in cultivating and managing partner relationships.
• Proven commitment to inclusivity and diversity in the workplace.
• Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other useful/relevant technologies.
• College degree or equivalent professional experience.
