Vancouver Police are Hiring and They Need Talent!
With the Stanley Cup Finals over now, the Vancouver Police are ready to get back to work, and they are looking for talent.
Join the Vancouver Police Department
The Vancouver Police Department is a diverse police force,
reflecting the rich tapestry of the many communities and lifestyles
that make up our city. We are one of the largest municipal police
forces in Canada and we are recognized as an innovator in Canadian law
enforcement. There are almost 400 civilian employees in the VPD, working
in partnership with their uniformed co-workers.
2011 VANCOUVER ABORIGINAL CADET PROGRAM
In 2004, Chief Jamie Graham, on behalf of the VPD, signed
an agreement with the British Columbia Aboriginal Workforce Strategy
(BCAWS) and the Province of British Columbia. The parties agreed to work
together to promote employment and career development opportunities for
Aboriginal people within the VPD.
In 2007, as part of that initiative, the Recruiting Unit
implemented an Aboriginal Cadet Program aimed at mentoring and coaching
Aboriginal youths 19 to 28 years who have demonstrated a desire to
become police officers with our Department.
This year, the program will run from June until the end of
August. During their internship, the cadets will spend half their time
working at the Kiosk and the other half "riding along" with various
sections within the Department. The pay is approximately $22.00/hour.
One of the most important requirements for potential
candidates is a demonstrated interest in eventually becoming a police
officer. For 2011, the VPD will be looking for three people that meet
the following basic requirements:
- 19 – 28 years old
- excellent character (behaviour and lifestyles choices that are consistent with the values of the Vancouver Police Department)
- grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- no criminal convictions, no adult criminal charges pending
- a valid Class 5 driver's license with a good driving record
If you know of someone who might be interested in applying
to this program, have them contact the Recruiting Unit at 604 -717-2709.
