Description: New England Business Media is looking for a research director for its two largest publications – the Hartford Business Journal and the Worcester Business Journal. The primary focus of the job is researching and producing roughly 100 business lists each year – the largest law firms, the largest commercial transactions, the highest paid executives etc. Some are fairly easy and involve finding trusted third-party data sources; some are hard and require lots of original digging. This is a full-time research position that does not involve media writing nor will it lead to a writing position. This is a job that requires a combination of skills – the research savvy of a librarian, the appetite for accuracy of a copy editor, the nose for news of a journalist. The right individual has strong analytical skills, great attention to detail and a passion for hunting down data. Good computer skills, including knowledge of Excel (sorting, etc.), are a must. Project management skills are also required. The research director will be shared between the Worcester Business Journal and its sister publication in Hartford, Conn., and can be based in either newsroom with periodic visits to the other.
Please send your resume and cover letter to cdavis@wbjournal.com.
