I'm hearing from recruiters that things are changing in the marketplace. Candidates are starting to turn down offers - something that hasn't happened in the past year and a half. This indicates that they have choices and may signal a spark in employment recovery. Let me know if you're hearing anything.
Also, this just in from DOL: In the week ending Aug. 21, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 473,000, a decrease of 31,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 504,000. The 4-week moving average was 486,750, an increase of 3,250 from the previous week's revised average of 483,500.

I actually turned down an offer last week. I'd interviewed twice at this financial services company and decided that the commute wouldn't work with my daughter's daycare schedule. The place was draconian. They were disappointed, but it just wasn't going to work out. So, I'm still freelance consulting and helping another firm who's short-staffed.
