Cambridge, Mass. – PatientsLikeMe, a Cambridge-based provider of information and communications tools for medical patients, has raised $8 million in a round of venture capital. Founded in 2004 by three MIT engineers, PatientsLikeMe has created a platform for collecting and sharing outcome-based patient data. The company is establishing data-sharing partnerships with doctors, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, research organizations, and non-profits. Its operating costs will be covered by partnerships that use its service for anonymized data from and permission-based access to drive treatment research and improve medical care, the company said.
