Job Title: Staff Accountant - Level 1
Department: Accounting
Reports To: Accounting Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Overall Responsibilities
Works with the accounting department and is responsible for accounting related duties.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
1. Provides daily support for automatic payment requests (ACH) for customers including preparing and sending ACH files to the bank, holding payments at collections staff request, and sending special transmissions when required.
2. Prepares reconciliation of balance sheet accounts including cash, prepaid accounts, fixed assets, payables and accruals.
3. Prepares journal entries as they relate to reconciled accounts.
4. Prepares Canadian check deposit for deposit to bank and entry into system.
5. Prepares and sends Canadian EFT file.
6. Records Canadian cash and bank activity journal entries.
7. Prepares and transmits payment file for third party vendor customer payments; prepares monthly invoice for services provided to third party.
8. Prepares promotional paperwork for dealers and follows up on payment of invoiced amounts.
9. Prepares loan and lease payoffs and amortization schedules.
10. Reviews contracts for termination and prepare termination processing sheet; prepares termination paperwork (bill of sale and UCC-3) for all terminated leases and for loans at customer’s request.
11. Identifies lease contracts at term to prepare and send residual buy-out letters to customers.
12. Prepares property tax returns and manages payment of property tax bills; prepares escrow assessments and reviews customer accounts for shortages and over payments.
13. Assists with special projects as needed.
14. May perform other duties as necessary to ensure department functions efficiently during regular times and busy cycles and for coverage of staff absences.
Qualifications
1. A Bachelors Degree with an Accounting major or equivalent, with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a professional environment.
2. At least 1 year of accounting experience.
3. Demonstrated understanding of accounting practices and procedures, as well as general business principles and practices. Understands the business implications of decisions.
4. Strong problem solving, time management, organizational, prioritization, customer service, and communication skills.
5. Proven ability to identify and suggest process, approach, and/or system improvements.
6. Thorough attention to detail, accuracy, quality, and maintaining confidentiality, along with demonstrated persistence in overcoming obstacles.
7. Good team player who can also work well independently, contributes to the achievement of departmental and Company goals, supports everyone’s efforts to succeed, and contributes to maintaining a positive work environment.
8. Track record of following through on commitments, working ethically and with integrity.
9. Working knowledge of industry-standard software applications, including accounting, spreadsheet, database and word processing packages.
