Newton-based MedNetworks Launches with $5M in Venture Capital

Newton, Mass. -- MedNetworks, a new company based in Newton that provides social network analytics research, officially announced its launch on Monday and disclosed that it has raised $5 million in venture capital form Excel Venture Management. MedNetworks has an exclusive license from Harvard University to use technology developed by Nicholas Christakis, a physician and social scientist known for his research on social factors influencing health. MedNetworks offers pharmaceutical firms, health plans, corporations and hospitals a method for analyzing social networks of physicians and patients and identifying patterns of influence. The company maps social networks, evaluates strength and dynamic development of connections of members of these networks, ranks individual influence and performs predictive modeling. MedNetworks says it can apply this analysis to virtually any type of network where data allow connections between individuals.
