The Organization
Primary Source is a twenty-one-year-old non-profit professional development center for K-12 teachers and administrators that promotes accurate history and humanities education by connecting educators to people and cultures throughout the world. In partnership with teachers, scholars, and the broader community, Primary Source provides global learning opportunities and curriculum resources for K-12 educators to shape the way teachers and students learn so that their knowledge is deeper and their thinking is flexible and open to inquiry.
The Position
Primary Source seeks a Program Director to plan and implement professional development for educators in online and face-to-face environments. This position requires experience in the field of K-12 education, content expertise in world history/humanities, experience with educational technologies, and a repertoire of sound pedagogical practices. The Program Director will work closely with the Senior Program Director, program staff, K-12 teachers, university professors, and other partners.
Responsibilities
- Leads face-to-face courses or workshops in areas of content and pedagogical expertise
- Develops, implements, and evaluates graduate-level online courses
- Manages online learning initiatives including online courses and online curriculum
- Creates curriculum materials for the website
- Plays a key role as facilitator and staff developer in online programs
- Works with program staff to create new program initiatives
- Writes grants and develops program budgets
- Develops graduate level syllabi and selects reading materials for teacher participants in collaboration with independent scholars and university professors
- Engages and trains educators to lead courses and workshops
Outreach
- Represents the mission and work of Primary Source to diverse audiences
- Travels to schools to meet with curriculum leaders and groups of educators interested in the work of Primary Source
- Participates actively in professional organizations and reaches out to like-minded non-profits
- Is active in state level conversations about history and global studies education
- Extends Primary Source's contacts in the scholarly community and the online learning community
Qualifications and Skills
- Commitment to the mission of Primary Source
- Experience in the K-12 education field
- Demonstrated expertise in creating curricular materials
- Familiarity with online courses
- Understanding and appreciation of online educational tools and possibilities for use in K-12 education
- Willingness to learn new technologies
- Experience managing a variety of people and projects
- Excellent writing skills
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to teamwork
- A deep respect for the work of teachers
- A passion for one or more content areas in history/humanities
- Good problem solving skills and a strong work ethic
- The ability to work with both university academics and school personnel
- Working knowledge of Moodle learning management system preferred
- Comfortable with Mac 0SX
- Masters degree or higher in related field
Salary: in the range of $50,000-$60,000, depending on experience
