To re-energize your job search, start with a fresh approach and look for opportunities to gain new insight and skills:

Have you taken full advantage of the One-Stop Career Centers?

In addition to resume-writing and interviewing workshops, are you aware of many of the specialized services the Career Centers offer? Using LinkedIn© as a Job Search Resource, Making the Career of Your Dreams a Reality, Using Age to Your Advantage, and Developing Your Self-Marketing Pitch are just a few of the workshops offered at the Career Centers. Find upcoming workshops online at theJobQuest event search page.

Have you visited the JobQuest website lately?

The new, enhanced JobQuest website premiered in December. New features include job listings from a broader source of employers in Massachusetts and neighboring states, improved search capabilities and access to career assessment tools.

Through JobQuest, you can access the Mass Career Information System (MassCIS), offered by the Massachusetts Division of Career Services. This online service, free to all residents in the Commonwealth, provides occupational and educational information to augment your job search. The site provides a number of assessment instruments and a link to an interest profiler that uses your interests to explore a variety of occupations – a great resource if you are thinking about career transition.

Networking is work

Some view networking events as an opportunity to get out of the house, meet new people and make a connection or two that hopefully will lead to a job. Successful networking is the result of a strategic approach, meaningful exchange of information and appropriate follow-up. Most One-Stop Career Centers have networking groups as well as workshops that share the best tips on how to network successfully. Go to the JobQuest event search page and type in “networking” for your keyword search.

Broaden your search to include all sectors

Some people stay within their comfort zone and focus their job search in the sector where they most recently worked. Others may have an “anything, anywhere” attitude born out of necessity or anxiety. Some are fortunate to have skills that can easily transfer to jobs in a broad range of sectors. Use the data found on our Labor Market Information page to gain understanding about the local job markets, hiring expectations and long-term employment expectations to help develop a strategic approach to finding the industries that have strong hiring projections.
