Thumbs Down: Unemployment up in most metro areas in March

The latest Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment
news release

was issued today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Highlights are below.

Unemployment rates were higher in March than a year
earlier in 321 of the 372 metropolitan areas, lower in 41 areas, and unchanged
in 10 areas. Among the 372 metropolitan areas for which nonfarm payroll
employment were available, 322 areas reported over-the-year decreases in
employment, 45 reported increases, and 5 remained unchanged.
