Waltham, Mass. - Boston Dynamics, a Waltham-based developer of robotics
technology, has been awarded a $32 million contract by the Defense Advanced
Research Project Agency (DARPA) to develop a "pack mule" for the U.S.
military. Boston Dynamics began in 1992 as a spin-off from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology, where engineers first developed robots that ran and
maneuvered like animals. The company's four-legged BigDog robot was the subject
of a popular YouTube video when it was first released two years ago.
