Lexington, MA Silicon Photovoltaics Company 1366 Technologies Raises $5 Million
From New England Tech Wire
Lexington, Mass. -- 1366 Technologies, a developer of solar energy
cells, has raised $5 million in a round of venture capital, which was led by Polaris
and North Bridge Venture Partners -- two investment firms that
previously invested in the company. 1366 Technologies, which was formed by a
team of MIT scientists, raised $12 million in its first round of venture
capital last year. The company combines new innovations in silicon cell
architecture with "lean" manufacturing processes to make cost effective and
commercially viable solar cells. 1366 was recently awarded a $4 million
contract through the U.S. Department of Energy's ARPA-E program, which supports
the development of renewable energy technologies. The company's motto is "solar
at the cost of coal."
