From New England Tech Wire | Jan 29, 2010
Woburn, Mass. -- Flexion Therapeutics, a Woburn-based drug developer, on
Friday announced agreements with four major pharmaceutical partners and said it
has raised $42 million in its first round of venture capital, which was led by
Pfizer's venture capital group. Flexion's new agreements with Pfizer,
AstraZeneca, Merck Serono, and one other unnamed partner establish "a
mature pipeline of clinically enabled drug candidates focused on inflammatory
diseases," the company said. Flexion has acquired one compound from
AstraZeneca, one compound from Merck Serono, and two compounds from the
undisclosed new partner. The potential drugs will be developed for a range of
inflammatory conditions, including osteoarthritis and tinnitus, Flexion said. The
company was founded in 2007.
