LinkedIn Groups is a great way to focus your online job search. Joining LinkedIn Subgroups (groups within Groups) can greatly increase your chances of meeting people who can help with your job search.

A Subgroup is usually created as a Regional, Professional/Industry, or Special Interest category within a Group. Most groups have Subgroups. To join a Subgroup, you must be a member of its parent Group, which is easy and free to join.

John Truiller of the Job Openings, Job Leads and Job Connections! Group explains two reasons to join one or more Subgroups in his Group:

  1. Each Subgroup contains it’s own “Jobs” tab and has its own job postings, which may not appear in the Main Group

  2. It is easier for human resources, staffing and recruiting professionals to target you if you’re in your chosen Subgroups
