Hello Everyone,

The agenda for this Friday's Hopkinton Networkers Group (HNG) meeting will be featured by speaker, Abby Grant. The facilitator for this week will be Jack Speranza. We will devote the first hour, from 10 to 11 AM to the following agenda: Welcome, Landings, Announcements, New Member Intros, and Needs & Leads. In the second hour, Abby Grant will talk about "Smart Reader for Job Seekers". Here are some comments about her talk:

Smart Reader for Job Seekers
Abby Grant of the Boston Business Journal will conduct a brief seminar on how to use the Boston Business Journal (BBJ) as a tool in a job search. Her perspective is unique as she has a background in recruiting and just completed her own job search. All attendees will receive a 4 Week Free Trial Subscription to the BBJ.

About the speaker:
Abby Grant has close to 20 years working in the communications field including publishing, advertising and public relations. Abby currently works in the Circulation Group at the Boston Business Journal - Boston's premier business publication. Prior to that, she was with a Boston-based recruiting and staffing firm, Hollister Inc., conducting Business Development for the creative and marketing group. She has held business development and account management roles for several Boston-based public relations and advertising agencies. Abby holds a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire and a M.A. from Emerson College.

Recap of HNG Meeting of October 30, 2009

Our 15th meeting of HNG had 79 people, this is the same as the previous meeting, and 11 of them signed the New Member list. Gil Krispien was our facilitator. Eleven gave their introduction speeches, and this included those who signed up in previous meetings. We had three landings: Robb Webb, Daria Hemmings, and a third person whose name I've forgotten.

We had two speakers:
Elinor Kerr discussed job searches for applicants who are perceived as overqualified for the majority of positions. She discussed how to overcome the "overqualified" roadblocks, and how to handle related questions in an interview.

William Lam talked about overcoming the emotional ups and downs of a layoff. He discussed from helpless to hopeful, these feelings are part of losing, searching for, and landing a job. In his session he talked about the different emotions one feels during the unemployed period. It identified the down emotion and some methods to cope with them.
