Thumbs Down: Layoffs reach record high!
The latest Mass Layoffs news release
(http://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/mslo.pdf)
was issued today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Highlights are below.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Employers initiated 1,776 extended mass layoff events that resulted in
277,924 job separations in the third quarter of 2009. The total number of events reached a record high for any third quarter. Nine major industry sectors had a record high number of events for a third quarter.
--------------------------------------------------------
Expect employers to continue layoffs throughout the remainder of the year as they try to boost 4th quarter results. If you are a job seeker out of work and are looking to a bleak winter, now's the time to take that seasonal job to keep some income coming in while continuing to explore full time career opportunities. The time between Thanksgiving and New Years tends to be a drag for hiring. BUT, hiring does occur during these times.
You never know when the next job opportunity will come. Your job is to always be ready and to take advantage. That said, keep watching and actively creating your next career. - Dan.
