Hidden
Gems is a column focused on getting local talent back to work. Our
first "Gem," featured in the Nov. 1 Seacoast Sunday, recently received
an interview. We are excited about the prospect that this venue will
help our local talent find work.

My next gem
is Andy Karpman of Hampton. Andy comes with several years of
demonstrated success in sales and business development. We met at a job
seeker network meeting. My first impression of Andy was how energized
and positive his attitude was; even in this challenging work
environment, he appeared upbeat.

Andy
indicated he has made several visits to networking groups in New
Hampshire and Massachusetts. He has found the events beneficial and
frustrating too. The networking groups are an excellent resource for
unemployed professionals to share experiences, gather opportunity tips,
edit resumes and pass around business cards; however, the jobs are
still hard to find. Although Andy remains positive, with the endless
job prospecting, networking and limited opportunities, the frame of
mind is consistently tested.

Andy was laid
off in mid-summer. He remains focused, eager and ambitious in his job
search. It was clear he is qualified in sales and business development.
His career concentrated on information technology solutions and
services.

Andy expressed his desire to shift
into a different sales environment; however, this may be a significant
task given his past employment has been primarily in IT.

Reflecting
on my human resources recruitment experience, I explained to Andy, his
extensive knowledge and tenure practicing sales developed core skills
that would be instrumental in his capability to sell in any environment.

Having
various methods of prospecting, assessment techniques, creativity,
perseverance, business acumen, relationship building and his
presentation savvy to connect and deliver to C-level executives,
management and decision makers are key attributes to success. His core
skills are well established to sell products or services, increase
productivity and profits for any business sector. He is fun and has a
great sense of humor, both additional attributes to success.

In
addition to finding a sales role, Andy would be valuable in a
consulting role, an educator and/or trainer, providing refresher
courses for sales teams; the basics of selling; and establishing core
skills for successful selling.

In

all levels of decision-makers. I have an outstanding ability to get to
the "right people," inspire the confidence of customers, and become
their trusted advisor and valued partner. Outside of sales, I am the
president of the board of directors of a 300-member organization, and
am involved in day to day business operations, fund-raising activities,
management and key decision making issues. I am an effective
communicator and strive for personal and professional development. My
strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, my sense of
humor and understanding people are my best qualities.

Tell us about your recent work experience.

I
was recently employed as a senior account executive for Logicalis, a
global provider of high-performance technology solutions. We focus on
core technology solutions that are making an impact on the way IT
delivers services, including unified communications, enterprise
computing, storage solutions and managed services. I was accountable
for uncovering and developing new enterprise-wide business
opportunities from all industry segments, including corporate,
government, health care and education, with a focus on storage
solutions. My responsibilities also included managing and growing
existing accounts. I also worked as an account manager for Comport
Consulting and The Ergonomic Group, where I had roles taking the sales
of the companies to higher revenue and profit levels.

Andy's
professionalism and prior successes would prove valuable for a
growth-oriented organization that can capitalize on his abilities and
knowledge to the fullest extent.
