Hopkington Networkers Group Meeting Overview
Hello Everyone,
The agenda for this Friday's Hopkinton Networkers Group (HNG) meeting will be featured by two speakers: Elinor Kerr and William Lam. The facilitator for this week will be Elinor Kerr. We will devote the first hour, from 10 to 11 AM to the following agenda: Welcome, Landings, Announcements, New Member Intros, and Needs & Leads. In the second hour, Elinor Kerr will talk about "How to Overcome the "Overqualified " Issue", and William Lam will discuss "The Emotional Ups and Downs of Layoff." How to Overcome the "Overqualified " Issue
Her topic is to discuss job searches for applicants who are perceived as overqualified for the majority of positions. She will discuss how to overcome the "overqualified" roadblocks, and how to handle related questions in an interview.
The Emotional Ups and Downs of Layoff
From helpless to hopeful, these feelings are part of losing, searching for, and landing a job. In this session you will hear about the different emotions one feels during the unemployed period. It will identify the down emotion and some methods to cope with them.
About the speakers:
Elinor Kerr is a Human Resources professional with over 20 years of experience, primarily in the manufacturing environment. Elinor is bilingual in Spanish, and finds this to be an exceptional skill in her field. Her history runs the gamut from a small, start-up, high-tech company in which she developed HR, Payroll, and Safety to working at the Corporate Director level with multi-site responsibilities at mid-size companies.
William Lam has been in the Information Technology field since 1994. He was with State Street Global Advisors for 9 1/2 years as a vendor and in-house software support person. Prior experience was supporting RAID storage array, archive financial data, and Windows 3.1. His first career was a manufacturing engineer for 17 years in the medical x-ray, testing equipment, and aircraft industries. He is a member of Toastmasters since 2003. He has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Northeastern University.

Our 14th meeting of HNG had 79 people, this is 2 more than the previous meeting, and 20 of them signed the New Member list. Gil Krispien was our facilitator. Sixteen gave their introduction speeches.
Brian Geery was our speaker and he gave a talk on "Get Up, Get Hired, and Get a Raise!".
