I am actively trying to hone my marketing skills and want to share my experience.

First, the Career Center in Lowell is still on John Street near the the
validated parking garage. I started by taking the required introductory
FREE class.

This got me a Number that is used to access the Career Center resources for FREE.


I sat with a career coach for 3 hours and began filling out the job search plan.


Next I took a RESUME WRITING class to begin to develop a Functional Resume.


Next week I will take the LinkedIn class which is the reason for starting this discussion.

I was hesitant as I tried other centers and either they were too
far (Marlboro) or too full (Leominster). Lowell is a good balance.
Although still very busy , it is usually easy to get attention or hop
on computers. Only restriction is they must be used for job search. I
also will be taking computer classes on how to do the search using the
available databases.

ALTERNATELY,

In May I attended a BarnRaising dot Org seminar which has a cost
but because of being a non-profit it is a real value. I met the
facilitator Dana Aaron at a New England Job Show taping session in
April 2009. I was struck by his friendly personality which is why I
signed up. I and my wife Cristina went all the way to Framingham State
College for the seminar because before I moved to Groton I was in
Framingham.

Dana had said he will provide the seminar where ever there is interest.


I hope someday to have enough interest to make meetings more closer to home.

Now it is October 3, 2009 and he is doing another seminar in Framingham

Separately,

I am also attending his innovative networking group offering. We
meet once a week and requires seminar to participate. A $10 donation to
the non-profit allows Dana Aaron to facilitate the meeting of a small
group.

I can take anyone once (or twice) as a non-participating visitor
to a networking meeting before deciding to take the introductory
seminar.
