Listen to your words
Listen to your words
Have
you ever listened to your own words? When you do, you will discover
some of the most important keys to begin improving your life. Your
words will show you how you look at the world and more importantly how
you try to move the world to work with your goals. What might happen
when everyone began listening to you and aligning their activities with
your directions?
Consider how often you've heard about how somebody made a fortune
selling a product or service. Do you know that it is impossible to sell
anything? You cannot make, force, somebody purchase a product. How
does this dichotomy occur? It is a matter of describing, using words,
to relay information and the problem with the words. This same
dichotomy happens when you describe a situation, feeling or thought to
another person. What you describe is not exactly what happens. For
example, while you cannot sell anything you can make a product so
irresistible to a person that they are compelled to buy it. This
activity is what is commonly described as sales.
When you attempt to transfer one of your thoughts to a friend or
business associate do you fall into this trap of describing a
compelling need as sales? Notice how the words may not accurately
convey the intellectual and emotional content that you have to another
when what you are describing is a buying process. When this happens,
you will soon begin feeling misunderstood and even a bit isolated.
Certainly, not conveying your ideas will result in a degree of
frustration, and an obvious lack of personal direction and control.
Conversely, getting the feedback of agreement and understanding from
your listeners gives you a sense of acceptance and direction in your
life, something that we all want.
The sense of acceptance and direction arises from a few simple
activities. You do it by monitoring your words and adjusting your
speech through the feedback that your listeners provide. I know, this
sounds simple, because it really is. The complexity is from training
and learning this communication style Based on a number of workshops
and seminars, these skills are well within the average person's grasp
within a few hours. Imagine how well your life would flow when your
spouse, children, friends and co-workers listened to you and
immediately understood you. How would your life improve when service
people listened to your every word and performed as you desired? How
much further would you progress to exceed your goals when you have
support and efforts from others adding to your efforts?
All of this is within your grasp when you apply a few readily
learned behaviors and principles. The result doesn't change a single
aspect of you or your beliefs, but rather improves how well they are
transmitted to others. The techniques don't make you different, they
make you more effective. Being effective in living your life is the
best way to have everyone want to buy into your ideas and goals.
