A Way to Handle Your Mind When You are Feeling Hopeless
When you feel discouraged, down, and are losing hope, rather than
sit in your own suffering, meditate on the countless others who are in
a similar situation or worse than yours (and there are millions upon
millions of them). Imagine that you are taking on all of their
suffering, and in a small way, what you are going through is helping to
relieve them of their sufferings - making their burdens a bit lighter.
In this regard, you are using your own sense of hopelessness and your
own suffering as a way to try to be helpful to others. Try it. It
works. And, it will change the nature of your thinking
