Fordham University NYC: Field Researcher Needed

We are currently hiring Short-Term Tracker/Field Researcher for the New York City Study of Social and Literacy Development
based at Fordham University
Project Description:
This short-term Tracker/Field Researcher position will begin
as soon as possible for a follow-up study of a school-based social-emotional
learning and literacy development program that took place in New York City public elementary schools. The 4Rs Program (Reading, Writing, Respect,
and Resolution) was developed and run by Morningside Center for the Teaching of
Social Responsibility in NYC, and integrates conflict resolution and balanced
literacy for children in grades K-5. As
part of this follow-up study, data on adolescents' health-risk behaviors and
academic development will be collected directly from the original cohort of over
850 children who have now entered middle schools throughout NYC and their
parents/guardians. This study is being
conducted by Dr. Joshua Brown, Department of Psychology, Fordham
University, and Dr. Stephanie Jones, Graduate
School of Education, Harvard
University.
The primary responsibilities of the Tracker/Field Researcher
include but are not limited to:

Detailed tracking and recruitment
of families for study participation -
Scheduling of interviews with parents/caregivers -
Administration/collection of
survey data through in-person interviews from 8th grade students and
their primary caregiver -
Close coordination and
collaboration with other Field Researcher staff, Research Assistants, and
Project Director -
Community-based tracking
activities including, but not limited to in-field distribution of recruitment
flyers -
Availability to work an evening/weekend
schedule
Qualifications and Skills:
-
Familiarity and comfort in working
with at-risk adolescents and families -
B.A./B.S. and demonstrated
interest in social science research -
Strong interpersonal, organizational,
and phone skills -
Must be willing to travel to local
communities throughout all NYC boroughs to complete field-based data collection
and community-based tracking activities -
Spanish language skills a plus -
Familiarity with Access or
database management
Position Duration:
This position will be full-time (35 hours a week) with no
benefits, through December of 2009.
Specific determinations about holiday and vacation time are subject to
the needs of the grant-funded project.
