Newton, Mass. -- Ambient Corp., a Newton-based
developer of smart grid communications technologies and equipment, announced on
Wednesday that it has signed a long-term agreement with Duke Energy to
provide technologies for the utility's next phase of its smart grid deployment.
The contract calls for Ambient to provide its communications node as the central
communications technology to transmit data from residential and commercial smart
meters and other applications back to the utility's network operations center.
The deal has a "probable" minimum value of $50 million over the next file years
for Ambient, a company spokesman said.
