Cambridge, Mass. -- BBN Technologies, an advanced
technology firm based in Cambridge, announced on Tuesday that it has been
awarded a $22.5 million contract by the US Army Product Manager Robotics
and Unmanned Sensors (PM RUS) for 1,095 "Boomerang" shooter detection systems
and 2,195 vehicle installation kits. BBN's Boomerang system immediately alerts
users to incoming hostile fire and pinpoints the location of the enemy shooter.
Last year, the company delivered over 5000 Boomerang systems to the US Army,
also through a contract with PM RUS. Today, there are over 6000 Boomerang
systems deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, many mounted on military
vehicles.
