After
6 months of being unemployed and diligently doing all that one is
supposed to do, I am happy to say that I finally got a formal job offer
this week. It wouldn't have happened without intensive networking,
persistence, self-confidence, and staying informed.

In short,
there are 5 key attributes to a successful job seeker. I'll be the
first to admit, it was difficult being the best at all of them at any
given time, but as long as you are aware of them and try your best,
they'll help keep you in check and on the path to a new job.

1)Persistence
- You must keep at the job search, in an active manner. You can't be
passive and just sit around and wait for the opportunities to come to
you.

2)Networking - Networking is what landed
me my new job. Whether it be with former clients, colleagues, friends
in your industry, and even people outside your industry, you never know
who knows who and who may be able to connect you with someone.
Persistence plays a big role and networking. You must keep at it. You
never know when a position will open up and one of your contacts has a
lead for you.

3)Self-confidence - The job
searching process can definitely be emotionally draining. Sometimes you
may start to question yourself and your abilities. Althought the whole
process can sometimes be an emotional rollercoaster, you must remain
strong. Establish a strong support system and find a mentor or two to
help you through it.

4)Staying informed - Being
out of work can sometimes lead to feeling like you're not informed and
aware of current trends and information in your industry. It's very
helpful to stay informed of what is going on so if/when you are in
conversations with a potential hiring company, you sound informed. Easy
way to solvve this is sign up for industry newsletters, visit industry
sites/blogs, attend industry association/group events.

5)Get out and be social and try to have fun
- Sometimes it's easier said than done, but you MUST get out of your
house and socialize and try to have fun. Otherwise you will go
absolutely nuts. Go to the gym. Exercise. Visit friends over lunch.
Walk your dog if you have one. Volunteer. Plain and simple, just get
out.

I hope these help all you job seekers. Happy job hunting!
