Framingham, Mass. - HeartWare, a Framingham-based maker
of miniaturized implantable heart pumps, announced that it has raised $55
million in a private placement of stock with a group of institutional investors.
The company sold about 2.5 million shares of common stock priced at $22 per
share in the deal. HeartWare has completed enrollment of a 50-patient
international clinical trial. The company received CE Mark approval for its
system in January 2009 and it is now commercially available in Europe. In the
U.S., the system is the subject of an ongoing clinical trial under which
HeartWare will enroll up to 150 patients.
