JOB SUMMARY:
The chief financial officer (CFO) is responsible for managing all financial
matters at VEIC. Provides strategic direction, oversight and management for
VEIC's Accounting/Finance Division. This includes accounting, financial
management systems, treasury, financing strategy, reporting & analysis,
corporate planning & budgeting and contract management functions.
Responsible for aligning the organizations financial systems with the
mission and core values of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Accounting:
. Oversee the Accounting Director to ensure proper maintenance of all
accounting systems and function
. Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial
procedures.
. Implement effective and efficient financial management systems and tools
that will position VEIC for current and future growth
. Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management
reporting; oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual
financial statements.
. Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.
Financial Management:
. Analyze and manage financial aspects of organizational growth strategies,
including review and analyses of financial viability of prospective business
plans.
. Oversee cash flow planning, cash, investment, and asset management.
. Oversee financing strategies and activities, as well as banking
relationships.
. Develop and utilize reporting and analysis tools to provide insight into
the organization'
. Manage key contracts to minimize risk and ensure cost effectiveness.
Corporate Planning & Budgeting:
. Coordinate the development and monitoring of budgets in alignment with
strategic plans.
. Develop financial business plans and forecasts.
. Participate in corporate policy development as a member of the senior
management team.
. Engage in and serve as staff to the finance/audit committee of the board
of directors to develop short-, medium-, and long-term financial plans and
projections.
. Represent the company to financial partners, including financial
institutions, investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials,
etc.
. Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal
law regarding nonprofit operations.
. Provides advice as to overall organizational/
regards to the creation of separate business units and/or subsidiaries.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Strong personal commitment to VEIC's mission, goals and values.
2. MBA or Master's degree in accounting/related management field and/or CPA
or CMA certification and 10 years of broad finance experience or a similar
combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and
skills have been acquired.
3. Minimum of 5 years of executive-level strategic financial management
experience with a large (annual budget of at least $25 million) and complex
(multiple, independent business units) organization.
4. Knowledge of the Federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB) grant
operations rules, regulations, cost principles and audit requirements as
detailed in OMB Circular A-122 and Circular OMB A-133.
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
6. Excellent computer skills.
7. Exceptional knowledge of financial accounting, reporting and analysis
software market for medium-to-large organizations.
8. Demonstrated leadership ability, team management & interpersonal skills.
Ability to lead effectively with and across all levels of the organization,
including the Board.
9. Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent
organization skills.
10. Demonstrated ability to be organized, detail-oriented, accurate, and
able to handle multiple tasks and competing priorities.
11. Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze & implement financial
management systems in a complex and rapidly growing organization.
12. Demonstrated ability to see the forest & the trees.
