The Director of Application Development, who reports to the VP of Technology, will lead several teams of web application developers. The Director is to be a strong software developer working in a highly collaborative web development environment. The Director will lead the technical aspects of specific software development projects. The Director will provide direction to a team of developers, both onsite and offshore. The Director must be multi-faceted with strong design and coding skills.
§ Management of a team of approximately 15 members. Management activities include recruiting, project assignments, scheduling, training, performance reviews, and mentoring as well as participating in budget activities.
§ Provide technical leadership in the defining and implementing of architectural changes necessary to address expanding product requirements and maintenance concerns
§ Interface with other divisions to share technology and ideas
§ Responsible for ownership of the application code base which includes maintaining the integrity of the code, understanding and documenting the current capabilities, defining/enforcing standards, and performing and participating in code reviews
§ Participate in department-wide software process reviews to increase product quality and resource efficiency
§ Work with architectural and project management teams to complete product roadmaps, schedules, and improvements to our processes. In particular, will plan and manage the web application portion of the product development schedule
§ Work with other teams to implement technical specifications and enable key business processes related to the company's web properties
§ Write and review of application code for web-based applications
§ Adhere to and maintain project scope, time line, and functional requirements for site development projects as directed by a project manager
§ Work with functional groups to integrate requirements and enable key business processes via website
§ Continue to develop skills and learn new technologies
§ Work with and aid in the mentoring process for all team members
§ A strong ability to work in a team oriented environment
§ Learn, execute and demonstrate a working knowledge of software development methods
§ Support test plan definition and execution. Support test execution
§ Write documentation as needed
§ Learn and convey deployment and customer support responsibilities for specific systems
§ Desire to meet challenges, succeed, and grow.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
§ At least three years current or recent experience managing an eCommerce application development group.
§ Significant hands-on experience in design, implementation, and developing of applications in a internet/ intranet environment
§ Must have recent on experience with eCommerce platforms preferably - Websphere Commerce Server V5.6
§ Extensive JSP and servlet (JSP 1.1 spec) development experience on commercial web sites (at least 1 year)
§ Strong Java, Java Beans, and EJB programming skills in UNIX/NT environment
§ Extensive experience developing, interfacing and integrating 3rd party and legacy applications
§ Strong working knowledge of SQL (PL/SQL, Oracle familiarity is preferred)
§ Thorough understanding of XML in a Java environment
§ Strong experience developing with or using IBM WebSphere (preferred), or any major Java Application Server
§ Experience with ODD Tools is a plus
§ Knowledge of and experience with J2EE standards
§ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
§ Excellent problem solving skills
