Director of Business Development
Location: 2 positions available - Chicago, USA Headquarters

REPORTS TO: VP Business Development
SUMMARY:
Our client is dedicated to examining new growth opportunities that may arise
in the United States. The Director of Business Development will organize a
team and lead the development or acquisition process related to developing
or acquiring energy assets in broad regions of the USA.
The Director Business Development will be responsible for originating
opportunities and delivering executed agreement to the VP Business
Development, consistent with agreements specifically obtained from the VP
Operations and the VP Construction. In performing these functions, the
Director Business Development will assemble the team and will obtain input
and support from all relevant stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
within the organization, including, but not limited to Commodity Portfolio
Management, Commercial Management, Operations, Construction, Project
Management, Engineering, Legal, Finance (including Tax and Accounting),
Environment, and Human Resources.
Responsibilities:
* Primarily responsible for closing transactions
* Identify development and acquisition opportunities. Maintain
relationships with investment banks, private equity firms, and energy firms
to identify potential opportunities.
* Lead a development team in developing a project or a due diligence
team in evaluating an acquisition opportunity. Coordinate teams consisting
of technical, environmental, commercial/marketin
* Lead negotiations of all documentation associated with either a
development or acquisition transaction including development agreements and
purchase and sale agreements.
* Prepare presentations and interact with senior management to
describe development and acquisition opportunities, describe the rationale
for the transaction, the risks associated with an investment, and an
economic analysis.
* Coordinate the valuation analysis and identify sensitivities
pertinent to a particular transaction.
Qualifications:
* Require 10 + years of successful experience in power plant
acquisition and green-field development, with expertise in site evaluation,
and identifying and resolving issues that impact deal closure.
* Strong negotiating skills, with a proven ability to negotiate issues
such as land acquisition, site zoning, tax abatements; electric and gas
transmission rights and purchase agreements;
* Ability to motivate and create consensus among diverse groups within
a community, and close complex deals;
* Team oriented individual, able to lead, motivate, and manage groups
of highly skilled professionals, and capable of managing to approved
operating, capital and manpower budgets
* Excellent communicator, with strong presentation skills, and
comfortable dealing with the highest levels of corporate management
* Knowledge of project management techniques with a rudimentary
knowledge of plant operations and construction management
* Solid origination skills with strong contacts in the US Northeast
and Mid-Atlantic Regions, and able to conceptualize business opportunities
consistent with the stated strategy and objectives of the organization;
* Expertise in valuing existing assets and in leading Due Diligence
investigations.
* B.S. Degree in technical or financial discipline; MBA is preferred.
* Broad understanding of the energy industry structure and key issues.
* Basic finance, accounting and technical knowledge.
* Experience in valuation methodology and ability to analyze
spreadsheets.
