Pay It Forward
From Workquest
In
the midst of a business-draining recession, some entrepreneurs are
taking a step that would have been considered radical only a year ago.
Working for free for their best clients. It's not about bartering, it's free work plain and simple. It's
about keeping personal relationships, about marketing themselves or
just trying to keep employees busy. Of course, nobody wants to work for
free, but better some free work - with the possibility of some good
will, good karma or maybe even future payback - than doing nothing.
How can you as a job seeker use this model? Well, rather than having a gap on your resume - volunteer to do some pro bono work in your area of expertise. Check out www.volunteermatch.org for places in need of your specialty in your local area.
You
will be paying it forward, doing good, keeping your skills up,
networking and staying positive and upbeat while you continue to look
for a full time job.
