Resume Clouds Revisited

BetterJobsFaster has gotten a lot of attention for our unique ways of providing job seekers with insightful tools to help them better orient and get the job. Resume clouds was one of our first tools to help you see what your resume is really saying. Using the great free tool from wordle.net, we showed job seekers how you can get a glimpse of what a recruiter might be seeing when they scan your resume. As a result, it can help you optimize your resume to get the right message across.

Since then, job seekers have shared their stories about how they've used their resume clouds to help them land jobs, stand out from the crowd, and gain meaningful insights into what they really want. It's great hearing from you! Keep up the great work.

I learned of another way to create a more sophisticated resume cloud this morning as I sit in my hotel room in San Diego after having led a great job seeker workshop at the San Diego Workforce Center yesterday.  ImageChef has a free Word Mosaic tool that allows you to create a different kind of visual representation.

While ImageChef's tool does not create an image based on the frequency of the words in your resume, it does allow you to apply those words in a symbol.  So, for example, you can have the words form into a heart, briefcase, peace symbol, etc.  You can create your own custom symbols, so the sky's the limit.  It also has the limitation that it has no way to keep words together, so it will break apart "project manager" as two words and use it wherever it likes to create a resulting image.

So, while not perfect, it is another tool you might enjoy using to create your unique brand identity.  If you check it out and find it useful, feel free to share with the group what you've come up with!

Happy job hunting!

Best,
Dan.
