Have you ever worked at an organization or on a team that you would say was a "great place to work?" I'm depressed that many employees and job seekers I've spoken with have never had that experience. But I am hopeful because I know that those companies exist. I've worked for them at Monster Worldwide, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and The National Center for Social Impact.

There were 3.6 million job openings on the last business day of May, little changed from 3.4 million in April, but up from May 2011. The hires rate (3.3 percent) and the separations rate (3.3 percent) were essentially unchanged over the month.

Thumbs Up: DOL reports drop in unemployment claims last week of 14,000
: "Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report
In the week ending June 30, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 374,000, a decrease of 14,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 388,000. The 4-week moving average was 385,750, a decrease of 1,500 from the previous week's revised average of 387,250."
